Happy birthday Devoto Design
Happy birthday Devoto! Seven years ago, exactly on April 23rd 2014, Devoto Design took its first steps. The company was born as the evolution and implementation of Devoto Arredamenti. Not everyone knows, though, that the story of Devoto had started many years before..
Exactly in 1979… thanks to its two founders: the young couple Claudio Devoto and Caterina Bosco.
Claudio‘s dream had always been that of being a joiner, but his family insisted he went to university to study law. So the conscientious Claudio completed his studies and the day after his graduation told his parents:
“I did as you told me to: I got my degree. Now I’m going to be joiner, though.. “
Caterina not only supports Claudio‘s choice, but she also decides to give her teaching career up to become an entrepreneur with her husband. The two of them start a small joinery lab where they give birth to their first creations. At first, it is wardrobes and bookcases for their friends and relatives, but the quality of their works soon leads to bigger projects like entire bars and shops.
Of these very first years, Devoto Design will keep the experimental approach and the enthusiasm of its founders.
Tradition and evolution: Devoto Arredamenti turning point
In 1993 Claudio meets architect Paolo Portoghesi. He chooses Devoto to deliver the joinery works for the Mosque of Rome. A massive job that turns the small laboratory into a proper company that, from that moment on, has never stopped growing and evolving.
For the Mosque of Rome project, Devoto buys its first fax and computer that – as you might remember – at that time would barely fit in a room. It is in this period that Devoto develops an industrial and technological approach that joins craftsmanship, innovation, and experimentation. The formula works and several hotels and flagship stores turn to Claudio and Caterina’s company for their services. The number of employees grows and the company buys its first CNC machines.
In those years we became a reference point for all those architects and designers that had particularly “creative” ideas in the Roman context..
Besides wood and joinery works – that had made Devoto Arredamenti famous in those years – with Devoto Design other heterogeneous and sophisticated works and materials are implemented. Thanks to a Design & Build approach and the presence of Marianna Devoto (Architect and Sales Director) and Cecilia Devoto (Managing Director and COO) that bring along a wave of innovation, the company is now a protagonist of Italian Interior Design. It conquers a place of honour in the International market too, thanks to the delivery of complex and massive works. An example is the famous 10-meter-high canyon of light at the National Museum of Qatar gift shop designed by Koichi Takada. But let’s slow down..
Devoto Design: innovation and internationalization
It’s 2010 and the complex works delivered at the MAXXI Museum of Rome – double-curved furnishings with organic shapes – give Devoto the chance to be recognized on the market as a company specialized in the engineering of complex shapes and in digital fabrication.
Other collaborations with world-famous architects and designers come along and take the Devoto team abroad to deliver incredible works and pieces of art.
40 years of experience, passion and curiosity
Today Devoto Design can offer its clients the 40-year experience of its founders together with the professionalism of young architects and collaborators expert in design.
Engineering, project management, consultancy and the use of new technologies applied to the materials are among the services that Devoto Design can offer today, together with the care of the project in all its steps: from the design to the installation.
Every day in its headquarters in Cisterna di Latina the different departments work together to find the right solutions for the new architectural challenges. Every project is made of the story of all the people and collaborators that have worked on it, with their years of experience and the know-how they were able to gain on the international worksites, never forgetting the values that have made the company what it is now.
Happy birthday Devoto Design!
This year has been complicated and delicate for everybody. Despite everything we have decided to maintain our approach based on the training of our resources and on Research&Development activities, never forgetting our principles. We strongly believe in a “Green Design” and we pay utter attention to the research of materials. And today more than ever we believe that architecture needs to complement nature and be sustainable.
Special thanks to our collaborators and all the artisans, joiners and professionals that have decided to work with us all these years. And thanks to all our clients that every day give us the chance to develop and look for new ideas we’re very proud of, because – as we always like to say – …
Design & Build is a Serious Game
