Fixed joineries for luxury residential apartments: Devoto for NY Loft

Fixed joineries that required a specific construction technology. Here is a gallery with some of the furnishings that most significantly characterize the luxury apartments we delivered in 2021 for NY Loft.

Here is how we came up with a construction technology solution that proved to be perfect for this luxury residential project that involved strongly customized furnishings and claddings in wood.

Original furnishings for luxury apartments

This project included the realization of 4 apartments in a newly-built building. Specifically, these are the main furnishings we engineered and produced:

  • ENTRANCE LOBBY of all apartments
  • CORRIDOR WALL CLADDINGS with in-built cabinets
  • HEADBOARDS in the master bedrooms
  • WALK-IN CLOSETS and cabinets

The list goes on with:

  • EQUIPPED DECORATIVE WALLS in the kitchens
  • VANITY UNITS matching the rest of the furniture

BY THE WAY: the corridor wall cabinets are equipped with floor-to-ceiling sliding doors that, when closed, perfectly blend with the fixed part of the wall cladding.

Why did we choose fir wood for the fixed joineries?

For all the fixed joineries we used thick solid fir wood panels.

This kind of wood (that in this occasion we painted in brown and antique grey) was the most suitable to create a surface texture with the so-called “brushed smooth” effect. A texture that matched and suited the design of the apartments.

A customized construction technique

If you look at the surfaces and the panels in the bathrooms, you will notice decorative millworks and geometric elements that alternate wood with backlit smoked glass.

This double-faced surface characterizes the flush doors integrated in the bathroom cladding, and it was made thanks to a construction technique that we engineered and customized specifically for this project.

THE BACK-PAINTING TECHNIQUE on the perimeter makes it easy to glue the glass panels flush with the other elements that compose the cladding, whether in wood or other materials, without compromising the see-through and filtering effect of the glass, letting the light pass through.

The doors flush with the cladding are, in fact, composed of parts in wood and parts in backlit glass that let the light pass through and hit the room. And that was essential to grant privacy and to prevent seeing the inside of the bathroom from the outside.

Let’s hear from Fabio Valenza (Design Manager) how we realized the doors:

TWO MAIN BASIC ELEMENTS OF GLASS, the retainer and the glue, could not be visible in this project, and had to be hidden. Otherwise, when lit, the glass portions wouldn’t have had a “clean” and consistent look. But how could we make the retainer and the glue invisible? Easy: we decided to back-paint only the perimeter of the glass portion. How? well, the project design showed that all these portions were enclosed in a wooden frame. With the designer on our side, we decided to eliminate the wooden frame and obtain a new frame directly on the glass panel by painting the perimeter on the back.  This technique perfectly hid the retainer and the glue along the perimeter.
